| What is a hospital or medical "lien"? |
|
In reference to a personal injury case, a lien is a legal claim against settlement money you might receive from the liability insurance company. Holders of liens may include a health insurance plan or HMO, workers’ compensation, and medical providers. In Missouri, hospitals, by statute, may assert a lien against settlement funds. Other medical providers may or may not have a lien, depending on the circumstances. |
