Who will pay for the repairs to my car?

Damage to your car is usually paid by the negligent driver's insurance company immediately after the accident. It is a good idea to get two or three written estimates. Several estimates make it less likely that the insurance company will argue that the repair costs were too high. It is reasonable for the insurance company to examine or inspect your car. However, you do not have to accept the insurance company's estimate of repairs based on its own inspection. Unless you can actually get the car competently repaired somewhere in your area for that amount, the company's estimate is meaningless.

If you have full coverage on your vehicle, you can submit a claim with your own insurance. Sometimes, it is easier and quicker to deal with your own insurance company. However, you are responsible for your deductible. Your insurance company will then collect from the other person's insurance company. At that time, you will be reimbursed for your deductible.

Property damage can be settled separate from your personal injury claim. If the insurance company asks you to sign a release on the property damage claim, you should have an attorney review it to make sure you are not releasing your personal injury claim.
