Should I go to the emergency room?

It is important to receive medical treatment for your injuries as soon as possible. Whether you go to the emergency room depends on the nature of your injuries and on the availability of your family doctor. Some type of injuries, including closed head injuries and neck and back injuries, can become worse unless prompt medical treatment is received.

At the emergency room, tell the doctor and nurses all of your injuries, pains, and discomforts.

Too often, people only tell the doctor about the injury that hurts the most. As a result, the medical records may be incomplete as to a description of all of your injuries. Insurance adjusters may compare the injuries listed in your emergency room records with subsequent medical records to see if your current complaints are consistent or mentioned by the emergency room doctor.
